Saturday April 24th: Climate Change, Poverty and Migration: It’s All Connected
Climate Change, Poverty and Migration: It’s All Connected
Saturday, April 24, 2020
S. Caroljean Willie, SC
(Program Director of Earth Connection)
“Both everyday experience and scientific research show that the gravest effects of all attacks on the environment are suffered by the poorest.” This quote from Pope Francis in Laudato Si' speaks so clearly of the connection between climate change and poverty and the effects it is having on migration patterns throughout the world. The US Catholic Bishops remind us that “At its core, global climate change is not about economic theory or political platforms, nor about partisan advantage or interest group pressures. It is about the future of God’s creation and the one human family.” What are we called to do? Do we recognize all of God's people as our family? Do we care for the sacred gift of creation? Are we willing to allow God to call us out of our comfort zone and accept the invitation to respond with love and compassion?
